for people who mean to write more

The writing app that remembers what you wrote.

A short demo of the thinkdeli editor. A note about a walk to the bay is written, an older note about tide charts appears next to it, the daily goal reaches 300 words, and the note is published. You can click the note to type in it yourself.

What thinkdeli does while you write

From January

Aaji’s kitchen

Her pickles took three weeks. She never wrote the recipe down, so I did.

01

Your old notes show up while you write

Start a note about your grandmother’s kitchen and the one you wrote in January about her pickles appears beside it. You don’t tag, file or link anything.

Listening

“…and the chai stall by the station had moved across the road.”

02

Talk when typing is too slow

Tap Talk to text on a walk or in the car. What you say is added to your note as text you can fix later.

What have I written about my dad?

Three notes. In Tide charts you wrote about the tables he kept in the kitchen…

03

Ask questions about your own notes

Ask “what have I written about my dad?” and the assistant answers using what you have already written.

Publish a note with one click

End-to-end encrypted. Only you hold the key.

Most note apps keep your notes on their servers in a form the company can open. Very few writing apps let you seal a note so that nobody else can read it.

thinkdeli does. Make any note private and it is encrypted on your device before it syncs. Nobody else can open it, including thinkdeli.

Unlock with Face ID, a fingerprint or a passphrase. Your recovery key stays with you too, so keep it somewhere safe.

Letter to Aai

I never told you why I left the job in Pune. It wasn’t the money.

Encrypted on your device

A private note is locked in your browser before it is sent anywhere. Our server only ever receives scrambled text.

Your key, not ours

Your passkey, passphrase and recovery key never reach our server. Without them, nobody can open your notes, including us.

Sealed everywhere

Private notes sync to your phone and laptop and work offline. Images inside them are encrypted too.

How it works. Each private note has its own AES-256-GCM key. Those keys are locked with a master key that only your passkey, passphrase or recovery key can open. Passphrases are stretched with Argon2id, and the encryption runs in your browser with the Web Crypto API.

What to know. If you lose your passphrase, passkey and recovery key, nobody can open your private notes, including us. Ask your notes and related notes use a private note only when you allow it.

A daily goal of 300 words

The counter at the top of every note shows how much you have written today. Each day you reach 300 words gets a square on your calendar. If you don’t know what to write, there is a new prompt every day.

today’s prompt
By morning, everyone had a different version of what happened.

Write without internet

thinkdeli saves notes on your device first. Write on a plane or in a café with bad Wi-Fi, and your notes sync when you are back online.

Take your notes with you

Download every note as a Markdown file from Preferences, any time.
